Conceptual framework on consumer behaviour with a focus on energy savings in buildings

This paper gives an overview of literature regarding individual consumer decisions on energy demand of residential buildings in the context of sustainable consumption. It focuses on consumer research literature in the building area, but consider explicitly contributions from other research approaches dealing with energy demand-side programs or instruments and household decisions on energy consumption. It also look at determinants of sustainable energy consumption. Based on the findings of an international inventory of in this respect relevant research projects and studies, it drafts a conceptual framework which offers a common "baseline of understanding” of behavioral aspects of energy conservation in buildings.
