This booklet presents the operating principle of balanced mechanical ventilation systems with heat recovery for one family houses. It recalls the mandatory values of air flow rates extracted in each room according to the French regulation. It then lists the key points of the installed system design: location and accessibility of the fan, air tightness of the ductwork, noise level, ... It describes the main components of the system: heat exchanger, ducts, controls. The sensitive point for a good installation are then discussed in new and renovated buildings, as well as the maintenance needs.
