Industry representatives, regional experts, academics and EU officials held the first public meeting of the research study group: ‘Infrastructure needs of an EU industrial transformation towards deep decarbonisation’.   The initiative aims to identify what infrastructure will be needed to meet energy and carbon-intensive industrial areas new demands for electricity and hydrogen.

The European Commission has welcomed the publication of the three new important reports by the Technical Expert Group (TEG) on sustainable finance, including key recommendations on the types of economic activities that can make a real contribution to climate change mitigation or adaptation (see official press release).   The first report, supported by EIT Climate-KIC’s expertise, provides a classification system – or taxonomy – for environmentally-sustainable economic activities.

During the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2019, the session co-organised by DecarbHeat and FEDARENE, “The Green Revolution Starts at Home” took place in order to presents the heating and cooling sector in Europe and the resources available for local, regional and national authorities.    Various innovative tools and projects such as RELaTED, PLANHEAT and Hotmaps are being developed to assist cities and regions for decarbonizing heating and cooling.

Since the Sibiu Summit on the 9th of May, when 210 European Mayors and leaders of cities across Europe urged the European Council and Member States to step up the EU’s climate commitments, over 100 Mayors joined the call to show global leadership and drive ambition to make rapid progress in the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
