Validation/testing information | This is not analysis software, but a design aid for architects. At the same time the underlying VIPweb engine by Strusoft in Sweden is ASHRAE 90.1-2004 compliant.
Input of the tool | The basis is the architectural 3D Building Information Model. For structures, ‘U’ values are in the software by default. The user can refine settings on a graphical interface or if advanced can edit structures’ data in XML files
Output of the tool | The report basic data (such as heated volume etc.), presents carbon footprint and monthly energy balance.
Strengths | EcoDesigner is integrated into the core design software so there is no data exchange needed.
Weaknesses | EcoDesigner does not do energy certification.

EcoDesigner enables architects to quickly and efficiently evaluate design alternatives based on energy consumption, carbon footprint and monthly energy balance. Using EcoDesigner architects can easily analyze, at an early stage, their design for energy efficiency. Providing valuable feedback on the building's energy performance means the architect can make better decisions on how to conform to regulations and satisfy the interests of the client and the operator of the building.
