EXPERT TALKS is an initiative from the BUILD UP portal which has started in February 2020. In the form of face-to-face interviews, experts coming from all around Europe and covering the field of Energy Efficiency in buildings from different perspectives share their views, experiences and expertise with BUILD UP audience.
During this year, BUILD UP has invited and interviewed ten experts, addressing relevant topics linked to the Topic of the Month.
Coming now to the end of the year, the BUILD UP editorial board would like to share with you the complete list of all the interviews done during 2020 so you can watch, or re-watch, the most interesting to you!
Director of Agenzia CasaClima (KlimaHaus), Ulrich Santa, was the first expert to be interviewed for the new BUP Expert Talks section. The focus of this interview was on digitalization and sustainable building focused in the design phase and materials, key topics addressed in Klimahouse Congress: “Construction 4.0” and “Architecture 2020”.
Back in January 2020, during Klimahouse 2020 in Bolzano (Italy), we had the opportunity to interview Carlo Battisti, European Executive Director at International Living Future Institute and Chair of COST Action Restore. The interview, held at NOI Techpark, focused on COST Restore and the role of the International Living Future Institute.
We had the opportunity to interview Laura Maturi, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Renewable Energy (EURAC research). She is an expert in the field of renewable energies, in particular building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) and energy efficiency in buildings.
Our next interviewee was Sylvain Kubicki, Senior Research and Technology Associate at Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology. He is a trained architect and PhD in Computer Science ensuring the coordination of several European research projects at LIST as well as their representation at the European Construction Technology Platform and the French chapter of buildingSMART.
For the 5th edition, the interviewee was Dr Duygu Erten, Senior Sustainability Executive, Green-Building certification expert and board member of Turkeco Construction and Energy Inc. The focus of this Expert Talk edition was on the topic of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB), the challenges this level of performance brings for the building sector and the role of Green Building Certifications in achieving NZEB construction.
Here the interviewee was Christophe Sykes, Director General at Construction Products Europe (AISBL) and member of the Chairman Advisory Group of the CEN Adaptation to Climate Change project. The questions addressed in this Expert Talk relate to the pathways to recovering from this 2020 Coronavirus crisis and the provisions for the building sector included in the Green Deal and associated European policies and regulations.
It is turn of Carsten Druhmann, Lecturer and Researcher at the Institute of Facility Management and Head of Real Estate Management Competency Group. The questions addressed focus the role of facilities management and buildings operation and maintenance in assuring that the foreseen performance of a project is actually achieved and in contributing to energy efficiency, health, and sustainability.
The 8th hosts Armand Paardekooper Overman, associate architect at Mecanoo. He has extensive experience in realizing spatial quality within the context of complex multi-stakeholder processes. The focus of the interview is on architecture and urban planning, technology and materials in buildings and some very innovative projects which Armand has been involved with.
The 10th edition of our Expert talk hosts Adrian Joyce, Secretary General of EuroACE and Campaign Director of the Renovate Europe Campaign, which was initiated by EuroACE in 2011 in order to stop energy waste in buildings. Its ambition is to reduce the energy demand of the building stock in the EU by 80% by 2050 as compared to 2005.
The 11th edition of our Expert Talks hosts Dragomir Tzanev, Executive Director of Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect and official representative of Municipal Energy Efficiency Network EcoEnergy – Bulgaria. He is also the coordinator of the BUILD UP Skills – Bulgaria, BUILD UP Skills EnerPro, Train-to-NZEB and Fit-to-NZEB projects, and the ongoing EXCITE and NZEB Roadshow, supported by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union.
