The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Unión de Créditos Inmobiliarios (UCI) are set to finance green investments in Iberia ranging from the refurbishment of existing buildings to the construction of Nearly Zero-Energy properties. These investments will be possible thanks to the provision of energy efficiency mortgages and consumer loans to the market by UCI.

On the 1st of May, Denmark's Social Democratic Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, made a crucial announcement that relieved many public housing companies in Denmark: a proposal to activate 30 billion DKK from the Landsbyggefonden (the National Building Fund) to renovation of social housing during 2020-2026. Of these, 18.4 billion DKK (2.4 billion €) will be used to renovate the 72,000-social housing in the fund's support queue. The remaining 11.6 billion DKK (1.5 billion €) will serve future renovations until 2026, with the focus on the green transition.

In its 2018 landmark report, Global Warming of 1.5°C, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned of a catastrophic climate breakdown if global average temperatures rose by 2°C. Negative consequences for our communities and planet would be long-lasting and, in some cases, irreversible. Recent events in countries like Australia have shown us a glimpse of the future and that the worst, if we do not act now, is yet to come.

12 energy topics under the 2018-2020 Horizon 2020 Work Programme are now open for application. They make available EU funding of €112 million in total.
The topics relate to low carbon energy (check the link below for the full list of topics).
The projects will be selected for funding in a single-stage evaluation.

The Commission has opened a four-week public consultation for feedback on draft rules to establish a new EU financing mechanism to support renewable energy projects. The main objective of this mechanism is to enable Member States to work more closely together in order to achieve their individual and collective renewable energy targets.

The SKILLCO Erasmus+ international construction project 2017-20 was successfully completed with 923 individuals participating in the pilot training sessions for four previously identified as missing sectoral skills in three partner countries (Slovenia, Germany and Hungary). The project also resulted in the development of the SKILLgApp mobile application with SkillCO teaching materials to assist learners in training.

On 20th April EBC Vice-President Philip van Nieuwenhuizen joined a follow-up call with EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton and other construction stakeholders to discuss about the COVID-19 impact on the construction sector. In particular, participants focused on the situation in the construction market, the current and future economic consequences across the value chain, and the needs for policy intervention for the exit and recovery strategies.
