Even though rejected heat from a number of industrial processes is called waste heat it often contains large amount of exergy and could be efficiently reused through one of the many waste heat recovery technologies. This simple web-calculator may be applied to analyse four most common waste heat recovery technologies from both technical and economic perspective. Any calculator user can use one’s own data on waste heat source, choses one’s own application of four considered technologies, checks its adequacy and predicts basic techno-economic parameters.

When it comes to heating, retiree Lucy Craig’s bungalow in north London is high tech. A self-professed gadget lover, when she refurbished eight years ago, she was keen to find the most carbon friendly methods for keeping her home warm. She settled on heat pumps.
Outside her house, all that can be seen of the pump is an innocuous metal box. Inside the machine is a closed circuit of liquid that cycles in a pipe running from the box outdoors to a water tank indoors.

Few people in Norway had even heard of heat pumps at the beginning of the millennium. By 2019, some 1.4 million units had been sold in the country, figures from the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) show.
Norway’s rapid adoption of heat pumps was spurred by a series of cold winters, an increase in electricity prices, grants and bans on old boilers.
