But making them happen is no easy task and today, different frameworks, assessment tools, certification schemes and indicators are being used in the housing to measure, monitor and manage a more efficient use of scarce resources.

As we’ve been living more closely with families and house mates through COVID-19, the more intensive ways we’ve used our houses has perhaps exposed some of their shortcomings. Households have had relative freedom to interact with each other, but the continual presence of our household has also made us wish part of our house could somehow partition itself into another house – a second house where we might retreat.

Around 19% of EU households get uncomfortably warm during the summer and in some countries, the figure is close to 50%. It isn’t simply a matter of comfort, though – overheating in homes can be fatal. In the UK, there were 892 excess deaths resulting from summer heatwaves in 2019, with many occurring in houses and care homes.

A survey has been launched in the framework of the Energy Efficiency Watch Project. The survey aims at collecting opinions from experts located in all EU Member States on the progress of energy efficiency policies in their own Member State for the last 3 years. The European Commission and the European Parliament have expressed their strong interest in the results of this survey, and it is crucial to have all EU member states well represented.

COVID-19 has forced many businesses to screech to a rather sudden halt. While many retail operations have shut their doors for the time-being, some are still able to operate but are experiencing a decline in revenue.The construction industry, unfortunately, seems to be having a pretty hard go of it. According to the latest research, construction companies have seen a nearly 50% drop in web conversions as a result of COVID-19.   Source

A little over 10 years ago David MacKay drew attention by saying “All the world’s power could be provided by a square 100km by 100km area in the Sahara.” Furthermore, MacKay’s calculation of the full potential of the region’s Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) totalled 25 times the TWh/year the world uses today. That was looking at the Middle East and North Africa’s (MENA) high solar irradiance, ample available land and the technologies of the day.

Pay-for-performance (P4P) is a way to achieve significant, larger-scale energy savings in the building stock and attract additional investments and new business models.
