Although local power generation by renewable sources is increasing, it has not yet had a real impact on radical decarbonisation of the energy sector, Changes need to be made by unlocking the potential of the prosumer. This project proposes a community-based Virtual Power Plant (cVPP), a novel model that can help organise & significantly boost renewable energy production & distribution at a local level.

The Norwegian demo case, located in Oslo, is the first example of a successful implementation of 4RinEU methodology. The renovation works took place in the second half of 2018 and lasted only eight weeks, during which the tenants kept living in their dwellings.

The renovation sector is crucial for a sustainable development of the construction market. Buildings account for 40% of the energy consumed today in EU, but annual renovation rates are limited to 0.4/1.2% in Europe. Also, a large share of buildings has more than 40 years and it is not adequately heated, bringing to a low efficiency of the building stock in terms of energy and comfort1.
