The way it works is simple. Since April, electricity companies have had to pay, by law, for solar electricity produced by homes. This is part of Government’s programme to reduce UK carbon emissions – an enormous 27% of which come from homes.
With the Feed-In Tariffs over 25 years a homeowner could earn 5-8% return on their investment in solar power – but the problem is that they still have to find the £ 11 k+ for the initial installation and wait for approximately 10 years to break-even.

"Last year we issued a record 1,130 SEES grants and a further 1,300 people received grants for loft and cavity wall insulation.

The improvement of the energy performance of nearly 550000 residential units has been financially supported.
The new structure of the funding system following the ratio of the energy performance compared to a regular building has proven to be effective and comprehendable also for non-experts. For example an energy efficient house 70 (KfW-Effizienzhaus 70) uses 70 % of the primary energy of a regular building.

All over the EU, Social Housing organisations are increasing the energy efficiency of their housing stock, however there remains potential for further improvements.
To accelerate this process, experts from national and regional federations need a platform where they can learn from each others’ successes and mistakes, exchange advice, tips and experience on all issues related to energy use in social housing.
