The document identifies conditions which are conducive for CF4EE and recommends policies and institutional actions that can help scale up CF4EE, where the conditions are favourable, in particular for debt and equity crowdfunding.

Buildings account for around half of the EU’s total energy consumption. As a result, energy efficiency of buildings is a major theme in the European Commission’s Clean Energy for All Europeans package of proposals and a focus of this year’s EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), which takes place from 21-25 June.   But buildings must be more than just energy efficient of course. As we spend up to 90% of our time indoors, buildings and the environment they create also have a significant impact on our comfort, well-being and even health.

At the end of 2016 the Commission launched the Smart Financing for Smart Buildings initiative as part of the Clean Energy for All Europeans Package. The initiative promotes more effective use of public funds through innovative financing solutions, provides assistance for project development and supports activities aimed at de-risking energy efficiency investments. The Commission and EEFIG worked closely to change the perception of risk regarding energy efficiency investments.
