La RE 2020 devrait appuyer les perspectives de développement de ces techniques constructives, en faveur d'un bâtiment bas carbone, ayant un impact environnemental plus vertueux.

The adoption of the "Energy Efficiency First" principle and the Green Deal brought a new policy era, also for energy efficiency. Since 2006, Energy Efficiency Watch (EEW) projectshave accompanied thispolicy development and implementation process.

eu.bac welcomes the 2021 revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which has become necessary in light of the increased ambition agreed in the Renovation Wave. The attached infographics made by the TripleA-reno project show some interesting insights about the project.   TripleA-reno is a H2020 EU-funded project running from May 2018 until April 2021. It raises awareness and provides guidance on the different phases of the renovation process for decision makers, such as designers, architects, engineers, customers, homeowners, building managers.

Accessible, easy and sufficient funding is key to speed up renovations in the EU. The EU Renovation Wave strategy, published in 2020, estimates the additional investment to double current renovation rates at around €90 billion per year. Public capital can cover some of the additional financing, but private capital must also be mobilised. This is where innovative financing schemes become essential.

Europe’s buildings have the potential to play a key role in our future energy systems. Making them more efficient reduces the need for expensive power plant capacity, defers the costly upgrading of network infrastructure, and enables this infrastructure to be used with more flexibility. The fact that energy efficiency is not adequately compensated for these benefits (SENSEI, 2020) acts as a barrier to its deployment. It deprives it of valuable funding and means that we all pay more to ensure the adequacy, reliability and security of our energy systems.

Creating a viable market for renewable-based mini-grids, with prospects of growth and long-term profitability for investors, depends on establishing trustworthy quality infrastructure (QI) for the technologies and systems involved.
