An understanding of human thermal comfort has proven to be one of the key components of energy efficiency in buildings. Human comfort is more to comfort than just temperature and humidity. For instance, the radiative energy that is emitted from walls, the air speed and also physiological factors such a as the people’s metabolic rate, the skin wettedness, and skin emissivity all have an effect.

National University of Singapore’s (NUS) School of Design and Environment (SDE) building, the SDE4, certainly stands out for its unique structure.   SDE4 is NUS's foremost net-zero building, and the first of its kind in Singapore to be built from scratch. SDE4 gets its power through a "solar farm" on its roof which comprises over 1,200 solar photovoltaic panels and boasts a range of innovative building strategies that focus on improving the well-being of its users.

Plant – 13 Annexe is a multiple use office and convention centre located in the Godrej campus at Vikhroli. Over the years, this building has demonstrated the highest standards of performance and has won many accolades including the ‘IGBC-EB Platinum Rating’ under the ‘Existing Building’ certification and the ‘BEE 5-Star Rating’ which further conforms the building to a ‘Minimum Energy Performance’.

This database tool aims to boost the BIPV penetration in the building sector, overcoming existing barriers as well as encouraging designers with inspiring examples of BIPV buildings and a quick glance at the current BIPV market.   As part of this initiative, a database collecting products is worked in parallel. These products are categorised in (a) modules, (b) mounting systems and (c) energy systems and can then be filtered by colour, size, transparency, technology type, storage, power conversion, etc.
