Around 1000 stakeholders discussed the future of European industry at the Industrial Innovation Info Days, organised by the EC DG Research & Innovation on 3 and 4 October 2017 in Brussels, Belgium. The event provided the research community with an overview of ongoing activities in the “Key Enabling Technologies” part of Horizon 2020 and offered support on the preparation of proposals for the 2018-2019 calls.

It focuses on the role of the client, current methods of procurement, the effects of the current and future spending cuts, the prevalence of practices such as suicide bidding, and what can be done to improve construction procurement practice.

Eine dekarbonisierung der europäischen Energie-system ohne eine dekarbonisierung der Wärmebereich ist unmöglich. Doch die Anstrengungen, die gegenwärtig sind zu langsam. Die Umwandlung der Heizung-Branche -von der Forschung und Entwicklung, Herstellung, installation und Wartung - erfordert eine gigantische Anstrengung von allen beteiligten. Aufgrund der verzerrten Preise für Energie, Markt aktuellen Bedingungen nicht geeignet sind, um trigger, die nötigen änderungen.

A decarbonisation of Europe’s energy system without a decarbonisation of the heating sector is impossible. Yet, efforts currently under way are too slow. Transforming the heating industry -from research and development to manufacturing, installation and maintenance- requires a gigantic effort by all stakeholders. Due to the distorted prices for energy, current market conditions are not suitable to trigger the necessary change.

The study "Identifying Levers to Unlock Clean Industry" aims to feed the new Energy Union Integrated Strategy on Research, Innovation and Competitiveness. To reach the overriding goal of creating growth and jobs, the competitiveness of the EU28’s manufacturing industry has to be improved. This is in part possible via a stronger diversification of traditional industries in the production of clean solutions (partly due to their own high energy demand), thereby increasing growth and export potential.
