The European Commission (EC) recognises the need for high-quality building stock data as a key precondition to reach its 2050 decarbonisation goals. In the current draft proposal for a revised Directive on the energy performance of buildings (EPBD), the EC introduces new obligations to mend the data gaps. A newly launched EU-funded project, ExcEED, promises to establish a robust and durable return of knowledge mechanism collecting actual buildings energy performance data and providing information to policy makers, designers, and energy managers.

The Passive House Institute released a new online database which provides a detailed overview of components for Passive House construction. Over 600 highly energy-efficient products, independently tested and certified with reference to their energy-relevant qualities, can be found together with relevant technical information.

Request2Action is a project across nine European countries co-funded by the European Commission. Its focus is on how data from Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), alongside other data, can be used to promote home energy efficiency.

The German Energy Agency dena presents a new database with promotion programmes for building renovations, energy saving measures and renewable energy measures. The database was developed in cooperation with BINE Informationsdienst und funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
