SSPCR 2019 specifically wants to support the ‘transposition’ of research into practice and visionary approaches into (planning) policies and tools, to be applied by local authorities and decision-makers in an urban and regional context. SSPCR 2019 explores the impact of academic research, the scaling-up and replicability opportunities of pilot projects, and the added value of local bottom-up initiatives, in relation to complex challenges posed by the smart city/region approach.

View the programme   The wider industry is waking up to the benefits of energy efficient buildings and many policies are beginning to point to Passivhaus (or equivalent!) But are we capable of propelling Passivhaus as the new norm for the masses?

Organised by A2A Calore & Servizi and Euroheat & Power/DHC+, this event will showcase the latest technology developments on digitalisation in district heating and cooling and the innovations of TEMPO in terms of digital solutions for low-temperature networks.

Historic buildings make up a considerable part of our building stock (one fourth for Europe). They are the trademark of numerous cities, and they will only survive if maintained as a living space. This means, that in order to save this heritage for future generations, we need to find conservation compatible energy retrofit approaches and solutions, which allow to preserve the historic and aesthetic values while increasing comfort, lowering energy bills and minimizing environmental impact.

The building and industry sectors combined represent about 85% of Europe’s CO2 emissions and about 70% of final energy use. Increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy demand is thus a key strategy to reducing carbon emissions from these sectors. Energy efficiency measures typically pay for themselves over time, but nevertheless, businesses often prioritise other types of investments in lieu of energy saving projects.
