Norwegian architect Snøhetta has pledged to only design carbon-negative buildings, meaning their projects will generate more energy than they consume over their lifetime. "For the next 10 years, we have the ambition of having projects on the table that will become CO2 negative in the cradle-to-cradle definition," said Kjetil Thorsen (co-founder of Snøhetta) "This means we have to understand the embodied energies and all the materials used."

As part of its environmental efforts, Wiener Linien launched a unique pilot project: The first-time installation of special photovoltaic films, on the roof of the underground station in the Ottakring district. The power generated will be used on-site to operate lighting, escalators and elevators. The films are five times lighter than conventional photovoltaic systems and have been installed on the flat roof of the Ottakring U3 station as a pilot project. “Public transport is one of the key factors when it comes to environmental protection in Vienna.

This detached house represents the designer’s ambition to make this type of housing accessible to all and thus drastically reduce pollution related to buildings. The house is 100% autonomous thanks to its field of 96 m² bifacial photovoltaic panels (sized for two buildings) and its battery park. Production of photovoltaic panels = 19.2 kW peak battery storage capacity 15 kW. Here are the peculiarities of this house:
