In an effort to accelerate the search for innovative solutions in the chemistry-sphere, the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) launched its second Innovation Challenge to engage, award and promote Sustainable Chemistry innovators from around the world.   The Innovation Challenge 2020/2021 calls for innovations in the field of Sustainable Chemistry and Renewable Energies.

At the former site of the Opel car plant the Stadtwerke Bochum Holding built up a 5th generation grid for the cold and heat supply for the new future users. In 2022 the first customers will be connected.   Dr. Frank Peper - Head of the District Heating, Water and Energy Projects Department at Stadtwerke Bochum Holding GmbH - gives us an overview of the project.

ePANACEA’s methodology aims to contribute to the harmonisation of energy performance assessment and certification of buildings across the European Union, enhancing market trust and user friendliness in terms of clarity and accuracy of the information provided.   ePANACEA’s methodology will be demonstrated and validated in five European pilot countries through 15 real case studies.

It is an unfortunate fact that every year thousands of construction employees are injured on the job.   According to OSHA’s reports, the leading cause of serious injury and even deaths on construction sites are falls, strikes from objects, electrocutions, and accidents involving equipment or construction materials.

The objective of the ePANACEA stakeholder analysis is to understand who the EPC end users are, what they know about the EPC, how they use it and what interests they have regarding the EPC.   In addition, the objective is to consider other stakeholders who get in (in)direct contact with end users and the EPC and therefore possibly influence end users’ behaviour and decision-making regarding energy efficiency measures.

Fundación Asturiana de la Energía (FAEN), the regional energy agency of the Asturias region, is participating in the C-Track 50 H2020 project. In line with the project objectives, they have been preparing the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) together with 10 municipalities of the region.

The year 2020 has led the world into a decade of action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the UN calls for a networked and inclusive multilateralism which will not only allow the outpouring of global solidarity to combat COVID-19 crisis, but help overcome the challenges of our current era.   2020 also marks the 15th anniversary of Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS) which has been dedicating to make sustainable cities and human settlements for all.

We are confident that we can reduce the > 7.1 billion ton of CO2 the concrete economy emits per year (study by Prof. Koji Sakai’s) by half, to the benefit of all smart stakeholders. We have now a ROADMAP, yet, that is not enough.   We need qualified drivers, vehicles, tools and personal skills to remove roadblocks, fill in the holes, level the playing field, and share the energy to move forward.
