The Energy Efficient Home program entails at “attractive” and sustainable financial mechanism aimed at implementing household energy efficiency measures. The Ministry of Economy has secured EUR 120,000 to subsidize interest rates and fees charged by banks when processing applications for loans to finance the purchase and installation of heating systems using modern types of biomass (pellets, briquettes), thermal insulation, and energy efficient windows and doors.

The EU-funded, Horizon 2020 project STUNNING, which promotes knowledge exchange and interaction in the field of energy-efficient building renovation, is conducting a survey on barriers for energy refurbishments to seek out answers and recommendations for the stagnant renovation rate in Europe. Based on the survey’s evaluation, STUNNING will provide insights on the processes that need to take place for the alleviation of the most common obstacles and market failures.

The Green for Growth Fund (GGF), which was initiated as a public-private partnership in December 2009 by German development bank KfW and the European Investment Bank (EIB), surpassed major milestones in 2017, increasing the total financing it has provided to final borrowers to over EUR 600 million across more than 25,000 individual projects.

Case study buildings should either have planned energy renovations or have already undergone renovations. BPIE analysed both EU and non-EU funding streams available in the region that could be used to improve the energy efficiency of the building stock. The analysis found that both funding supply into the region and demand coming from the region should be stepped up.
