The development of the retrofitting market is a significant challenge throughout Europe. This challenge faces particular conditions in the Mediterranean region due e.g. to its environmental and climatic factors, to the structure of the ownership and of the built stock, to social and economic factors, and to the consequences of economic crisis, which struck European Med countries with a higher impact than the other countries in Europe.

The building, designed by Ruben Muedra and developed by IDAI NATURE as their new headquarters, won the BUILD Sustainable Building "Excellence Award for Sustainable Architectural Design".
It has been completed in 2018 and it is located in the town of La Pobla de Vallbona in Valencia,where the main challenge was to meet the limiting cooling demands required for Passivhaus certification, in a warm climate and in a high internal gain building.

October will see the start of the first LEED Lab in Spain, the leading course on sustainable construction developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in accordance with LEED certification requirements.
The course’s first edition in Spain is organised by everis Group, which was officially approved by the USGBC to offer this programme with support from the Green Building Factory.

New report from BPIE – the Buildings Performance Institute Europe - highlights that more than half of EU Member States are six months late to submit their national Long-Term Renovation Strategies (LTRS), a key element of Europe’s strategy to decarbonise the building stock. Of those submitted only one is fully compliant with EU legislation.
