In order to achieve the European Commission’s long-term energy vision for 2050, yearly energy investments in the EU need to almost double  and of these, energy efficiency improvements in residential buildings represent more than half. Deep retrofits will thus be critical, but, as they can be expensive, new and innovative ways of financing are vital.

This Deliverable has been prepared under Work Package 2 (Formulating recommendations on national energy policy priorities for 2050 and fostering multi – level cooperation and governance). How and where to invest in Energy Efficiency: Energy Conservation Measures   When we start an energy efficiency project, as a first step, it is recommended to carry out actions that improve the energy behaviour of users.    In general, behavioural improvements are not sufficient to achieve the savings targets that were set, and we need to implement other Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs).

The European Commission has taken note of the urban regeneration plans of the Basque Country and has decided to contribute 1.7 million Euros to the Opengela project.   This concerns a novel concept of neighbourhood offices in two places which have been selected for a pilot test: Otxarkoaga (Bilbao) and Txonta (Eibar).

A few months from now REMOURBAN will come to an end. As a farewell to its readers, the project released a brochure on its achievements and legacy   Five years have almost passed from that morning in January 2015 when REMOURBAN started taking its first steps in the smart renovation of the cities of Nottingham (UK), Tepebaşi (Turkey) and Valladolid (Spain).

HOLISDER is an EU project testing innovative models to incease the impact of flexible energy services by addressing the relationship between ESCO’s, demand response aggregators and end-users.   Project objectives are to be achieved by the deployment of end-user technologies for consumer empowerment.
