Climate change is driving Europe to transform its energy sector. As we transition from a fossil-based to a zero-carbon economy in the next few decades, we will use more renewable energy, and the electricity we generate won’t come from a central plant. Instead, it will come from multiple, decentralised renewable energy sources that are near to load demands. But is the existing networking capable of hosting this increase in capacity? And how would the electrical grids of the future work?

In the 2050 EU Energy Strategy, the EU has set a long-term goal for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80-95% when compared to 1990 levels, in line with the efforts of the Paris Agreement to limit the temperature increase to 1.5° above pre-industrial levels. In order to achieve this ambitious goals, public authorities at all levels need the technical know-how and resources to develop long-term climate and energy actions.

With 'My2050' the Belgian government aims to encourage a debate with all citizens (and pupils of the 3rd degree secondary in particular) on how we can make our society evolve towards a low carbon society by 2050.
-an insight into the possible changes in the different sectors (transport, buildings, industry, energy supply and agriculture);

2020 is a major milestone of the European energy & climate policy framework. The latest trends in final energy consumption have shown that the main energy efficiency target of 20% overall energy efficiency improvement by 2020 could be missed.
By the end of 2019, the EU Member States will submit their final National Energy & Climate Plans, including targets for 2030 and strategies to achieve them.

This report is on the fact that in 2018, the EU has decided upon a climate and energy framework up to 2030, involving clean, affordable and reliable energy system in Europe.
To that end, greenhouse gas emissions are to decline by at least 40 percent below 1990 levels, renewables are to deliver 32 percent of our energy and efficiency is to improve by even 32.5 percent.
