While we enter a transition in the European framework for energy efficiency, ex-post impact evaluations can bring facts and figures about current achievements towards the 2020 targets, and useful feedback to improve policies in view of the 2030 targets.

The EU Commission has been developing Level(s) - a framework of macro-objectives and indicators aiming to help building professionals to report on the environmental performance of buildings. As well as energy and material impacts, Level(s) provides a framework for reporting the quality of the indoor environment achieved with these resources, including air quality, thermal comfort, climate change resilience and life cycle cost/value.

The goal of the Perlita Project is to show a new path for low energy consumption buildings in Los Angeles and in Southern California through realistic, affordable and reproducible solutions.
The main focus was the energy efficiency. We followed the PassiveHouse standard path, which is the leading international low energy building standard with more than 85,000 buildingsaround the globe in all climate zones, to deliver ahigh level of comfort with very low energy consumption.

Overall environmental impacts of nZEBs are substantially lower than conventional buildings. This is the conclusion of a new AZEB study in which the environmental performance of 3 AZEB case studies was evaluated using life cycle assessment (LCA).
The combination of LCA with optimization methods facilitates decisions to minimize environmental impacts of nZEBs, while keeping the costs as low as possible.

The EU-funded project ExcEED publishes a new factsheet on its geoclustering tool, one of the central tool of the project platform.

The ExcEED platform provides different tools featuring building performance in operational conditions, allowing you, as a platform user, to visualise the energy and comfort data of your building; assess your buildings’ performance through 27 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); benchmark your building with similar ones uploaded on the platform, or with another building from your own portfolio.

The right performance of a building directly relates to higher comfort and thus to better living conditions for the users. Less unexpected maintenance costs and improved comfort conditions positively influence the real estate value and occupancy rate.
This is the conclusion of the AZEB study ‘Real Estate Value and Occupancy Rate in nZEBs’. It demonstrates how the AZEB methodology effects these values, now and in future.
