Turkey’s building sector’s energy demand is growing rapidly, at a rate of 4.4% on average, effectively rendering it the one sector with the largest energy consumption among all end-use sectors, representing around one third of the country’s total final energy consumption.   The sector’s energy demand is characterised by a high share of gas and electricity use, with these two accounting for two-thirds of the sector’s total energy demand.

Bamboo always has been a basic construction material in tropical latitudes. But generally it has been used for inexpensive shacks, stalls, fences, scaffolding and sunscreens. If not treated, bamboo is highly susceptible to fire and naturally degrades within two or three years, because insects and fungi rapidly devour the sugar-and-starch-rich sap inside the canes.

Overall environmental impacts of nZEBs are substantially lower than conventional buildings. This is the conclusion of a new AZEB study in which the environmental performance of 3 AZEB case studies was evaluated using life cycle assessment (LCA).   The combination of LCA with optimization methods facilitates decisions to minimize environmental impacts of nZEBs, while keeping the costs as low as possible.

Less unexpected maintenance costs and improved comfort conditions positively influence the real estate value and occupancy rate.   This is the conclusion of the AZEB study ‘Real Estate Value and Occupancy Rate in nZEBs’.
