Why join­ing?   The RHC ETIP gath­ers in­dus­try rep­re­sen­ta­tives, re­searchers and pol­icy mak­ers to net­work and ex­change their ex­per­tise on RHC in­no­v­a­tive pro­jects, chal­lenges and op­por­tu­ni­ties to thrive in the long term.

What do they do? At the ZEN Research Centre, they conduct research on zero emission neighbourhoods (ZEN) in smart cities. Their goal is to develop solutions for future buildings and neighbourhoods with no greenhouse gas emissions and thereby contribute to a low carbon society.

If solar energy is to meet its potential for replacing fossil fuels, photovoltaic (PV) technology will have to be deployed far more rapidly than it is now. In 2017 solar PV accounted for barely 2 % of global electricity production.

Historic buildings make up a considerable part of our building stock (one fourth for Europe). They are the trademark of numerous cities, and they will only survive if maintained as a living space. This means, that in order to save this heritage for future generations, we need to find conservation compatible energy retrofit approaches and solutions, which allow to preserve the historic and aesthetic values while increasing comfort, lowering energy bills and minimizing environmental impact.

A POsitive Energy CITY Transformation Framework Objective POCITYF is a smart city-oriented project, whose major goal is to deliver a set of Positive Energy Blocks – a limited geographic area whose average local renewable generation is greater than its consumption – in the Lighthouse cities of Evora (PT) and Alkmaar (NL) and their Fellow cities Granada (ES), Bari (ΙΤ), Celje (SI), Ujpest (HU), Ioannina (GR) and Hvidovre (DK).
