European Social, Cooperative and Public Housing providers aim at refurbishing 400,000 homes per year or 4 million homes by 2030.   This will decrease the energy consumption of the refurbished housing units on average by 50% by 2030, cut emissions with at least 50% and save up to €700 per year on average to each resident.   Frontrunners in energy efficiency

By 2050 around 80% of the world's population will be living in urban areas. Currently, they occupy 3% of the Earth's surface but produce around 72% of greenhouse gases.   Growing urbanization along with climate change will have a serious impact on our life in cities in terms of air quality, warmer temperatures and higher flood risk. But solutions to reducing the environmental impact and improving people's quality of life has been found in nature.

Introduction Green Skibbereen CLG has made a proposal to Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSH) to form a partnership for the development of a Climate Action Centre based at Myross Wood House and Grounds, currently in the ownership of the Order.     Discussions to finalise the terms on which Green Skibbereen will occupy the property are ongoing. The project aims will be consistent with and supportive of the charism and philosophy of MSH.

What is SWC50 - The Century of Solar ?   In 1970 solar research pioneers met at the first International Solar Energy Society (ISES) Conference in Melbourne Australia. ISES is commemorating this Conference with a special 50th Anniversary Virtual Conference and Display called the Solar World Congress at 50 (SWC50).   During these past 50 years solar energy has grown from being emerging technologies to a vibrant industry.

The 23rd webinar on the Low Carbon Economy   Every day, more than 22,000,000 m³ of hot water are consumed by European homes alone. It is a major source of energy consumption for new housing, and yet 80 percent of this heat ends up in sewers and is wasted.   Considering hot water is mostly used in showers, recovering waste heat from shower drains could be a simple way to save up to 70 percent wasted energy and related CO2 emissions.

The Efficient Buildings Community has just developed a new set of recommendations for European and National decision-makers.   The eight recommendations are grounded in the experience of the Mediterranean local authorities and they aim to bring the lessons learned in the discussion about the next generation of energy policies: the European Green Deal, issued by the Commission last December, and the recovery plans in response to Covid-19, currently underway in each Member State.

In the past weeks, WBCSD has participated in several events centered around how the building sector is key to reviving the global economy and the importance of reinforcing sustainability going forward.   During the 11th annual World Green Building Week and Climate Week New York, there was an unequivocal consensus among all participating organizations that we need to build our way out of the social and financial crisis provoked by COVID-19, without losing sight of our net-zero targets.
