The ‘Insulate Today’ initiative will demonstrate this by: Working with Sainsbury’s Energy (a partnership between EDF and Sainsbury’s) to provide exclusive insulation offers to employees Investing in additional incentives to encourage employees to take up the offers (e.g. offering installed insulation for free to a number of employees, giving away energy monitors to help keep bills down)

A total of 100 households were challenged to do what they could to reduce their environmental footprint. They were selected to be nationally representative - including demographics, social groups and house types. Each household received an initial environmental audit from a member of the project team and an attitudinal survey to understand their views on environmental matters. They were also given a project pack of information and ‘green’ equipment, along with £500 to spend in support of their environmental improvements.

European Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger said: "This is an example of how an idea presented during last year’s Covenant of Mayors Ceremony is now a reality and having an impact on the ground. ELENA is a chance for cities and regions to help themselves by implementing Sustainable Energy Action Plans that create jobs, and at the same time help Europe as a whole meet its climate goals. After the strong response from cities and regions, we intend to double available ELENA funding to EUR 30 million.”
