The University of Environment, after winning the Energy & Hot Climates Award of the International platform, qualified in this category for the final... and won!   A minimal carbon footprint was the main objective behind the construction of this building. To achieve this, stakeholders drew inspiration from traditional constructions and uses of buildings in the region, while providing innovative solutions.

We are pleased to announce that the Renewables in Cities 2019 Global Status Report is now available!   Accounting for 55% of the world’s population, 75% of global CO2 emissions and 2/3rds of global energy demand, cities have a crucial role to play in accelerating the sustainable energy transition. While some national governments are working toward a sustainable energy system, city-level initiatives are fundamental as well, especially for transitioning local end-use sectors such as heating, cooling and transport.

RenoHUb aims to trigger a significant upscale of the energy retrofits of the Hungarian homes through the development of an integrated business model that is sustainable and cost-covering after the end of the project. RenoHUb intends to enable households to take the first step towards becoming prosumers, and map and remove all the non-financial barriers which cause setbacks in the process.

Dr Christoph Gürtler, Prof Walter Leitner and Dr Berit Stange have have proven that CO2 currently emitted by industries to the atmosphere could be turned into tangible and marketable materials for future products. Researchers and industry have joined forces to turn industrial waste gases (mixed CO/CO2 steams) into intermediates for polyurethane plastics for rigid foams/building insulation and coatings.

The Renovate Europe Campaign celebrated its annual REDay beacon event on the 8th of October 2019 in the European Parliament. Gathering building sector stakeholders, experts and policymakers this ninth edition was hosted by MEP Pernille Weiss (EPP, Denmark) and co-hosted by MEP Ciarán Cuffe (Greens, Ireland) and MEP Theresa Griffin (S&D, United Kingdom). This diverse political support demonstrates the cross-party relevance of the Campaign.

The consortium Nieuw Utrechts Peil has won the prize for best Dutch retrofit project.  The winning Flat for the Future is a social housing net zero-energy apartment building in Utrecht. It is one of the first of its kind in the Netherlands.
