According to the Renovation Wave Strategy, the buildings sector must contribute a 60% emission reduction to achieve the EU’s 2030 climate target. This requires a steep increase of deep renovations from currently 0.2% to 3% annually and a well-designed bundle of policies to overcome the distinct barriers of the sector.

In 2019, New York State lawmakers passed the most ambitious state-level climate legislation in the country—and among the most ambitious in the world. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) mandates that New York’s electricity sector become greenhouse gas emission free by 2040 and achieve an 85% reduction in all emissions by 2050.

This consultation aims to seek views from different stakeholders and citizens on the improvements to be made to the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. The revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive was announced by the Renovation Wave communication adopted on 14 October 2020. The objective of this revision is to boost renovation rates and to contribute to the achievement of the EU’s climate and energy objectives.

eu.bac welcomes the 2021 revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which has become necessary in light of the increased ambition agreed in the Renovation Wave. The VEF 2021 is designed to facilitate a multi-sectoral, multi-stakeholder and interdisciplinary dialogue on sustainable energy for inclusive development and productive capacities. Guided by the motto “Where Action Meets Ambition” and designed as the first virtual VEF, the 2021 edition will include a Youth Day on the 5th of July 2021, followed by the VEF on the 6th and 7th of July 2021.
