This detached house represents the designer’s ambition to make this type of housing accessible to all and thus drastically reduce pollution related to buildings. The house is 100% autonomous thanks to its field of 96 m² bifacial photovoltaic panels (sized for two buildings) and its battery park. Production of photovoltaic panels = 19.2 kW peak battery storage capacity 15 kW. Here are the peculiarities of this house:

The CoNZEBs project formed the main part of a session at the IAQVEC conference in Bari in September 2019. CoNZEBs project partner held in total 6 presentations including a project overview, different project results and one of the national exemplary NZEB buildings presented in the end-user brochure. The papers are published as open source documents in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 609.

On 13 June 2019 the national German CoNZEBs event was held in Saalbau Gutleut in Frankfurt. More than 110 practitioners and decision makers attended the event organised as a mix of presentations of nearly zero-energy buildings and beyond case studies and measures to reduce the construction costs.

Klimahouse promotes innovation and new ideas, giving ample space to fledging startups and young companies. And last but not least: Klimahouse connects – suppliers, demanders, experts and not – all those who believe in sustainable building for a better and more comfortable life.

The aim of this 4-year project is to show that it is possible to transform nearly-zero energy buildings into positive energy buildings (PEBs). This means that a building which is producing the majority of the renewable energy it uses itself, after refurbishment, will be producing more energy than it actually needs. The technologies will be tested in 4 climatic zones, EnergyVille/VITO investigates the scale-up of buildings into PEBs and is involved in the Belgian demo set up together with Cordium, the social housing company in Hasselt.

Historic buildings account for more than one quarter of Europe’s existing building stock and are going to be crucial in the achievement of future energy targets. Nevertheless, some alteration in the climate is already certain. For instance, the global surface temperature is expected to increase up 2°C by the end of the 21st century and extreme climate events are expected to be more frequent. The length, frequency and intensity of heat waves will increase in large parts of Europe, Asia and Australia [1].

The Rainhof is one of the most precious rural buildings of the Gsiesertal valley (IT), at 1.500 m above sea level. Built with solid stone masonry walls and the vernacular “Blockbau” (solid wood) construction, the building presents many traditional features, such as windows with deep reveals, decorated painted frames around the windows, and vaulted ceilings. The project was awarded the 1st prize at the Bauern(h)auszeichnung - ITAS-Preis 2016 for the best renovation of a farmhouse in Südtirol.
