VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed a free electronic tool for the construction industry, housing associations and home-owners, which makes it easier to evaluate the impact of different kinds of energy improvements.

Mala in srednja podjetja (MSP) se v gradbeništvu soočajo z dvema ključnima problemoma:
1. Potrebujejo takojšen in vsesplošen dostop do konkurenčnega znanja, da bi se lahko prilagodili povečanemu povpraševanju/zahtevam trga ter pospešili uporabo porajajočih se tehnologij in materialov za energijsko prenovo stavb.
Prilagoditev bo zagotovila večje zadovoljstvo lastnikov stavb, hkrati pa bo zmanjšanje porabe energije zagotovilo skladnost z lokalnimi in regionalnimi okoljskimi zahtevami.

BUILD UP Skills Finland aims to implement a quality-driven training and change process in construction and help achieve the ambitious energy efficiency objectives of the construction industry.
The project runs from October 2013 to March 2016. It will play a part in supporting national policies on promoting energy efficiency in construction and the development of in-work expertise.

Urban Living Labs are development environments that integrate residents and other stakeholders to develop and test new solutions in their daily life. The users of the new services or solutions are active partners in the whole development process which happens in the real urban context. Urban Living Labs utilize various co-design methods for understanding the needs, generating solution ideas, presenting ideas and evaluating the solutions in practice. In addition, citizen participation methods are used for participation in decision making and taking action.

Under the European Energy Efficiency Directive 2012/27/EU, EU countries should set up an energy efficiency obligation scheme. This scheme requires energy companies to achieve yearly energy savings of 1.5% of annual sales to final consumers.In order to reach this target, companies have to carry out measures which help final consumers improve energy efficiency. This may include improving the heating system in consumers' homes, installing double glazed windows, or better insulating roofs to reduce energy consumption.
