On Thursday 22 October 2015, the European Commission, in its monthly package of infringement decisions, requested eleven Member States (Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, and Spain) to ensure the full transposition of the Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU).

 On 2 October 2015, in Istanbul, Turkey, the Energy Ministers from the G20 countries and heads of international organisations met for the first time, affirming their commitment to renewable energy.  The meeting focused on access to sustainable energy for all, energy efficiency, investments in energy and renewable energy. Ministers also placed high importance on energy access, international cooperation, market transparency, energy security, clean energy innovation and climate change.

These guidelines from the European Commission aim to help relevant stakeholders, including industry and public authorities, to implement the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling regulations for space heaters and water heaters, published in 2013. The regulations establish minimum requirements and an energy labelling scheme for the products in their scope. The document summarises the most relevant information from the regulations to give Small and Medium-sized Enterprises-SMEs an introduction to the subject matter and answer the most common questions.

On 26 September 2015, new ecodesign and energy labelling measures introduced by the European Union came into force. A new energy label will inform consumers about the energy efficiency of heating products, while minimum efficiency standards will be required by ecodesign. These measures will help consumers save more energy –and money– while heating their homes or using domestic hot water. The new measures concern: boilers;heat pumps;water heaters.

On 24 September 2015, the European Commission sent a reasoned opinion to Estonia and Slovenia, requesting them to fully transpose the Energy Efficiency Directive (Directive 2012/27/EU) into national law. These Member States have now two months to comply with their obligations.

The Informal Energy Council, which took place on 23 September 2015 in Luxemburg, focused on new energy technologies and business, as well as on relevant investment opportunities in Europe. The aim of the meeting was to call for further cooperation between EU countries on research and innovation in new energy technologies under the Energy Union research and innovation priority, as well as under the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan.
