What do occupants know really know and want from NZEBs?   The CoNZEBs team has compiled and conducted a survey in four countries (Germany, Denmark, Italy and Slovenia) to learn about the opinion of end-users in multi-family houses (NZEBs or other building energy performance levels) regarding:

The energy renovation of existing buildings represents a key component of the “Energiewende” (energy revolution). The building envelope and the system technology used within the building itself form a single unit. Prior to a building renovation project, these two aspects should thus in principle be analysed together. Within this publication, however, only the building shell is to be addressed, with a focus being placed on thermal insulation.

The City of Stuttgart's Retrofit Standard comprises various steps to achieve the energy-efficient retrofit of both residential and non-residential buildings. This includes the construction supervision, for which the City's Energy Consultancy Office (EBZ) provides qualified experts. In this process, mainly the interfaces between the different trades/works are checked and documented.

In 2011, the 'School of the Future' project was launched as a demonstration project in the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union. The related call for applications focused on the 'Demonstration of Energy Efficiency through Retrofitting of Buildings'. Project goals included design, implementation and evaluation of holistic renovation measures in buildings with a high replication potential for large regions of Europe.

This fact sheet describes a new obligatory scheme introduced in Germany, which requires contractors to confirm in writing that the specific minimum energy performance requirements for building envelope components, space heating and hot water generation and distribution systems and newly installed cooling and ventilation systems are met during the realisation of a renovation measure. Infringements lead to fines.
