This document summarizes the main conclusions of the technical study commissioned and supervised by the European Commission services (DG ENERGY) towards the development of a smart readiness indicator for buildings.

The STUNNING Renovation Hub, a virtual platform for the interactive knowledge exchange in energy-efficient building renovation, was launched by the EU-funded, Horizon 2020 project STUNNING in September 2018. It enables stakeholders throughout the value chain to share knowledge and experiences with each other through articles on their innovative refurbishment packages, replicable business models and case studies on their successful implementation.

The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) were established in 2008 to provide scaled-up climate financing to developing countries to initiate transformational change towards a low carbon, climate resilient development. Channelled through the multilateral development banks (MDBs), the CIF encompass two funds: the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) and the Strategic Climate Fund, which includes three targeted programs – the Forest Investment Program (FIP), the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR) and the Program for Scaling up Renewable Energy in Low Income Countries (SREP).

Set up in 2015, the "Central and South-Eastern European Energy Connectivity" (CESEC) initiative aims to accelerate the integration of Central and South-Eastern European gas markets and diversify gas supplies. It brings together nine EU Member States (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) and eight Energy Community Contracting Parties (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine).

The Interreg MED 2014-2020 Programme supports the sharing of experiences, knowledge and the improvement of public policies between national, regional and local authorities and other territorial stakeholders from 10 different EU countries and 3 candidate countries. Its innovative architecture is designed to better respond to the needs of project stakeholders, ensuring three levels of impact: - local (“modular projects”) - thematic communities (“horizontal projects”) - common Mediterranean vision (“governance”).

The new Compete4SECAP project, or C4S, is building on resources developed in previous projects such as 50000&1 SEAPs working on the topics of energy management and action plan standards and the Save@Work project that organised municipal energy-saving competitions.

We are pleased to invite you to the E2VENT public workshop to be held on 19th April in Brussels from 13:00 to 17:00, which will be organized by one of the project partners, European Aluminium.
The workshop will tackle innovation in the renovation sector and renovation opportunities and challenges for European buildings under the coming new EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

This report, by the ABRACADABRA H2020 project, presents the attractiveness of a new renovation strategy based on volumetric Add-ons and Renewable Energy Sources (AdoRES) intended as one (or a set of) Assistant Building unit(s) - like aside or façade additions, rooftop extensions or even an entire new building construction - that “adopt” the existing buildings (the Assisted Buildings) to achieve nearly zero energy standards.

More than €140 million, from industry and the public-private partnership Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) will fund two projects, ene.field and PACE, aimed at the mass-scale deployment of fuel cell micro-cogeneration for residential heating and electricity.
