For many years now Member States have engaged in energy transition. This long experience has shown that conventional financing is not enough and financing sustainable energy measures remains a great challenge. For this reason, access to attractive and adequate financing products from the market is needed.

Set up by the city of Stuttgart (Germany) in 1995, Internal Contracting (Intracting) has already allowed the municipality to implement over 350 energy efficiency measures in public buildings, equipment and facilities generating financial savings of EUR 22 million. Intracting enables the municipality to finance multiple investments aimed at energy savings without being bound to an external contractor. In this process a technical department or a municipally-owned company (‘the client’) submits an energy-saving project.

Energy positive sewage treatment plants - A sustainable solution for climate protection in municipalities
The municipal wastewater in Europe contains an available chemical energy of about 87,500 GWh per year. This corresponds roughly to the capacity of 12 large power plants. Due to the currently used technologies and the associated energy loss in the individual process steps, sewage treatment in Europe instead consumes primary energy of more than two power plants.

Unter dem Titel „Wissen macht Wandel“ nahm die Brodowin-Grundschule in Berlin Alt-Hohenschönhausen am Wettbewerb Berliner Klima Schulen 2017 teil. Seit Anfang Juli steht fest, die Schule hat den Wettbewerb gewonnen und erhält die 5.000 € für den Gewinnerbeitrag. Insgesamt wurden 11 Projekte mit Preisen im Gesamtwert von 13.500 € ausgezeichnet. Berlins größter Schulwettbewerb zum Klimaschutz wird sein neun Jahren vom Land Berlin und der GASAG AG ausgeschrieben. Die Schüler der 4. und 5.

With over 160 energy innovations from which 50 are related to buildings, it is the innovation meeting point for the construction industry.

As the “Tour de France” pack of cyclists just biked the first kilometres of the race, the first snapshot is presented of the 236 public and private commercial buildings that have taken the lead in the 2017 Contest for better Use and Building Efficiency CUBE 2020. At the end of April, after four months of efforts, the candidates have a cumulative 3.2% of annual energy savings (that is to say a prospect of 10% by the end of the year) and 3.3% of greenhouse gas reductions. A dozen candidates passed the 10% threshold.

On 14 June 2017, the European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (EuroACE) organised a workshop in Madrid, Spain, on ‘Energy Renovation of Buildings in Spain’. Over 50 participants from the industry, the financial sector, the European Commission, Spanish national and local authorities gathered in the Official College of Architects Madrid (COAM) to discuss the crucial role of building renovation in the Spanish Energy Transition and for the Spanish economy.
