USGBC released four new Safety First LEED Pilot Credits in response to COVID-19 to support environmental and occupant health. The credits outline sustainable best practices that align with public health and industry guidelines related to cleaning and disinfecting, workplace reoccupancy, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) and plumbing operations. The credits can be used by LEED projects that are certified or are undergoing certification.

We welcome the EU’s intention to ‘Rebuild Europe’ by accelerating green building renovation to support economic recovery, to support our health, to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy security.   A recent survey of hundreds of central bank and national finance department officials found that retrofitting buildings was one of the top ways to stimulate growth and cut carbon emissions. A review of 35 building retrofit programs found an average of 19 jobs created per €1m investment.

With the objective of safeguarding the wellbeing of EU citizens by delivering improvements in Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), the Informal IEQ Gathering of eight European industry associations is proud to present its Healthy Buildings for All Manifesto.

The European Commission has today opened a public consultation on boosting the renovation of buildings across the EU. The Renovation Wave initiative is a priority under the European Green Deal and the Recovery play for the EU, aimed at increasing the rate and quality of renovation of existing buildings and thereby help decarbonise the building stock.
