Jan Cromwijk and Veronika Schröpfer introduce new training and assessment tools developed in several EU Horizon 2020 projects to assist practitioners to identify and address the strengths and weaknesses of their low carbon skills for new build and retrofit. Online learning packages to address skill gaps have been created, are freely accessible, and can facilitate the co-creation and application of interdisciplinary qualification schemes.

The European Investment Fund (EIF) and European Commission are launching a new pilot guarantee facility to improve access to finance for individuals and organisations looking to invest in skills and education. The EUR 50 million pilot scheme will support financing for students and learners, enterprises investing in the upskilling of their employees, and organisations supplying education and training.

The European Construction Sector Observatory depicts Romania as being behind the implementation of the 2010/31/EU Directive and the Nearly Zero Energy Bulding (NZEB) concept. Nonetheless, after 31st December 2018, all new buildings occupied and owned by public authorities should be NZEB. This requirement will be applicable to all new buildings as from 2021.

The Danish construction sector has been on the revival path since 2010, in line with the overall improvement in the general economy. In 2018, there were 74,810 enterprises in the broad construction sector in Denmark, with the narrow construction sub-sector accounting for 49.6% of the total. The number of firms in the broad construction sector has increased by 18.3% since 2010, with architectural and engineering activities experiencing the greatest growth (+21.9%).

Digital Skills for Workplace Mentors in Construction Sector Apprenticeships (CONDAP) is an EU-funded project with the objective to enhance the digital skills of mentors in construction apprenticeships. Instructus Skills are working together with other European partners from Greece (Exelia), Lithuania (VSRC), Belgium (EBC) and Spain (Polytechnic University of Valencia).

As part of the sustainability planning within BIMcert and with other EU BIM projects we have collaborated to form BIMalliance. The primary aim of this is to enable BIMcert to develop an exploitation plan in collaboration with other partners. This collaboration also enables all partners in BIMalliance to share materials, modules and learning material.
