The EmBuild project published this assessment of the updated national renovation strategies of Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Romania and Slovenia. The development and implementation of national renovation strategies by EU Member States is required by the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). Article 4 of the Directive required national governments to present a first version of their renovation strategy to the European Commission in April 2014, and that this strategy be updated every three years.

This report, developed under the framework of the H2020 project EmBuild, mirrors the step-by-step approach used to support municipalities with their renovation strategies: planning (including gathering data to establish an inventory of the building stock and developing policies and measures), investing (identifying sources of financing) and capturing the benefits of renovation.

It is addressed principally to Municipalities and the public sector, but it may be equally useful to the ESCOs, financing entities, policy makers and to all parties interested in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy systems integration in the building sector.
