Heat Roadmap Europe (HRE) added major new features to its energy planning tool, the perfect basis for European governments, businesses, consultants, academics, and planners to make informed decisions about investments in energy efficiency measures and use of untapped alternative energy sources for heating and cooling. The tool will also support the implementation of European climate commitments, ensure wiser investment of public money, reduce costs for consumers, and cut carbon emissions and energy consumption.

On 27 October 2017, the European Commission presented the final Work Programme for Horizon 2020, covering the budgetary years 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The 2018-2020 Work Programme builds on the success of Horizon 2020 so far, and takes account of the extensive interim evaluation of the programme. The Work Programme also responds to the European Commission's political priorities and paves the way for its successor programme.

The European Commission, as part of the "Smart Finance for Smart Buildings" initiative, is organising a series of “Sustainable Energy Investment Forums” (SEI Forums) aiming to enhance the capacity of and co-operation between public and private stakeholders to develop large-scale investment programmes and financing schemes. These Forums will consist of more than 30 events in up to 15 Member States in 2016-2019.
