The Clean Energy for all Europeans policy package led to the revision of several key pieces of legislation related to the renovation of buildings. Most notable was the revision of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) that now sets a clear direction for the full decarbonisation of the European building stock by 2050. By March 2020, Member States must provide their new renovation strategy to the European Commission (new EPBD requirement), first introduced in 2012 by the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED).

In January 2019 the European Commission published the third report on energy prices and costs in Europe. Published every two years, this most recent report finds that wholesale energy prices have fallen in recent years due to increasing competition on wholesale markets from greater amounts of renewable energy, improved interconnections and a more integrated internal electricity market.

  On 7 December 2017, in the context of its December infringements package, the European Commission announced that it  has send letters of formal notice requesting Greece and Malta to ensure the correct implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (Directive 2010/31/EU).
