In the developed world, buildings consume over 70% of the electric power generated and 40% of primary energy and are responsible for 40% of CO2 emissions from the energy services they require. In Europe, 75-90% of today’s buildings will be in use in 2050.

Low-temperature district heating and cooling are setting the way towards decarbonising our cities. To this aim, 5GDHC by delivering low-temperature heat and cold to connected homes in a circular way, is a promising way to decarbonize our cities.   GreenFlex, with the help of all D2Grids project partners, is launching a platform to inform project developers, industries and investors who wish to uptake this heating and cooling technology and inspire new 5GDHC projects.

“I would like to build more sustainably, but the costs…”: The fear of additional costs due to sustainability often leads to doubts and hesitations during planning and implementation. A new study from Denmark now shows with regard to new building construction that this is unfounded.   Here it becomes clear: more sustainable does not equal more expensive. On the contrary. “Sustainable is (more) expensive”: a prejudice that has accompanied sustainable building since its beginnings.

Ten UN agencies joined the 15th Global Forum on Human Settlements -- for promoting post-pandemic recovery and transformation towards resilient cities and healthy planet (October 16)   The 15th Annual Session of Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS 2020) was successfully held in a virtual format as an observance of Urban October on October 15-16, 2020, with the theme being “Post-Pandemic Recovery and Transformation: Resilient Cities, Healthy Planet”.
