This new antology edited by three Swedish researchers explores places and buildings of human history and cultural heritage by looking for pathways. Fifteen researchers from countries including India, Israel and the UK and the researchers describe pathways from a range of perspectives divided into three parts: history, storytelling and cultural heritage.

The Ministry of Bulgaria is planning to launch a EUR 30.5 million grant for replacing inefficient heating system into photovoltaics panels and solar collectors. In particular, households that will install rooftop solar power systems will be reimbursed for 70% of the investment. The call, which should be launched by the end of the year, will be for all sectors except for agriculture, fisheries and forestry and electricy production.

As part of the plan to reach climate-neutrality by 2030, the UK is going to replace 1.7 million gas boilers a year until 2030. The government has announced a scheme to help households to upgrade the energy efficiency of their homes before installing heat pumps. In fact, heat pumps are a fundamental part of the changes required, but they increase the electricity demand, and higher overall energy consumption means more renewable energy is needed for decarbonisation.

Residents of flats with communal heating systems are challanged by the high energy prices and there might be a possibility for them to sue their network operators for heating and hot water. On the other hand, households with conventional heating systems are covered by the price cap on bills.

Professor Zhibin Yu from University of Glasgow has found a solution to recover the waste heat of heat pumps and divert it to resolve the frosting problem, improving the heat pump´s overall performance. The main point is that heat pumps, instead of just genereting heat, they can also capture it and spread it all over the house.

British houses are among the oldest and less efficient in Europe, hence households are currently challenged by rising energy bills. The government has set a price cap that limits the average bill to no more than £3,000 ($3,600) a year until April 2024. Moreover, it is planning to spend an average cost of around £10,000 for each house that needs to be retrofitted in order to reach the 2035 energy efficiency targets.

Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy and a group of heat pump manufacturers have started a project to replace gas and oil in multi-family homes with propane heat pumps. This type of heat pump will include low-charge propane (R290) as the refrigerant. In fact, propane has become a recognised refrigerant for the heat pump industry and is widely used in outdoors heat pumps.
