Energy-efficient buildings have the potential to play a key role in EU energy transition. In the United States, several energy utilities have recently piloted and launched buildings Pay-for-Performance (P4P) programmes making use of possibilities offered by energy metering technologies that provide greater certainty over energy savings and drive improved performance.

Only a drastic reduction in global energy demand will allow an affordable manageable transition to a global energy system based on renewables and ambitious energy efficiency measures are key to meet sustainability goals. Global growth in energy use is largely outpacing decarbonisation and in 2018, primary energy intensity – an important indicator of how much energy is used by the global economy – improved by just 1.2%, the slowest rate since 2010.

The objective of the Horizon 2020 RenOnBill project is to scale up investments towards deep energy renovations of residential buildings, by promoting the development and implementation of on-bill schemes, based on the cooperation between energy utilities and financial institutions. On-bill schemes are a method of financing energy renovation investments in buildings that draws on utility bills as repayment vehicle.

Build a fully recycled house? Yes, you can with RE4 prefabricated building elements incorporating up to 100% of construction demolition waste! RE4 is a H2020 project which after 4 years has developed and tested on three demo sites in Europe and one demo in Taiwan, an energy efficient prefabricated elements for building refurbishment and construction, including an innovative mobile robotic sorting system.   Now the project is at its end and would like to share the outcomes during the four consecutive webinars.
