ACE Policy Seminar "Quality Architectural Services for a Sustainable Built Environment" and Opening of the Exhibition "20 Architectural Projects Against Climate Change"

The European Ministers for Culture endorsed last year the Davos Declaration, pointing out “a trend towards a loss of quality in (...) the built environment (..) all over Europe, evident in the trivialisation of construction, the lack of design values, including a lack of concern for sustainability”.

The Declaration underlines “the crucial contribution that a high-quality built environment makes to achieving a sustainable society, characterised by a high quality of life, cultural diversity, individual and collective well-being, social justice and cohesion, and economic efficiency”.

The Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) is organising on Wednesday 2 October 2019 in the European Parliament two events aiming to discuss and showcase solutions that architecture can offer for a sustainable and high-quality built environment.

  • Policy Seminar on Quality Architectural Services for a Sustainable Built Environment, from 16h00 to 18h00 in room JAN6Q1

This seminar will bring together MEPs, representatives from the EU Commission, architects and other stakeholders of the sector to discuss solutions that architecture can offer for a sustainable built environment. It will also focus on the mobility of architects’ services in the internal market.

It will provide the opportunity to better understand the regulatory framework in which architects operate and the challenges and opportunities raised by EU policies and initiatives, notably regarding the energy performance of buildings, the Level(s) scheme, circular economy, services in the internal market and recognition of professional qualifications.

  • Opening of the Exhibition 20 Architectural Projects Against Climate Change, from 18h00 to 20h00, ASP Distribution Area 03

With the support of the EU Creative Europe programme, the Architects' Council of Europe has created an exhibition featuring 20 architectural projects that contribute to mitigate climate change and adapt our societies to its effects. Several architects having designed buildings featured in the exhibition will be present.

Both events are organised with the kind support of Mr Rainer WIELAND, Vice-President of the European Parliament.
