The iPHA Community Meet Ups are a series of free, digital events every second Monday at 9pm CEST. They feature a short talk by a Passive House expert from the iPHA network, followed by time for a discussion. Hosted via GoToMeeting, the meet ups provide the international Passive House community with a place to catch up during this increased time in home office.
Our next event features a presentation by Dimitris Pallantzas from the Hellenic Passive House Institute discussing a student competition ran in Greece.
A large municipality in Athens (Moschato - Tavros) decided to construct a Passive House Kindergarten from scratch. The Hellenic Passive House Institute (HPHI) decided to share the opportunity with students from all over Greece by organising a student design competition. The idea was to "fill" the educational gap regarding energy efficiency in buildings in student education.
The competition went for six months. The Passive House Institute and HPHI provided the students with the necessary Passive House software and continuous education through the Certified Passive House Designer seminars and mentorship. Teams were made up of a mix of architects, civil and mechanical engineers.
Initial estimates planned for 6-8 teams and 30 students - but the expectations were far exceeded! Ultimately, 32 teams and 210 students signed up!
