Smart Sustainable Cities 2017 – Viable Solutions (SSC2017)

The international conference ‘Smart Sustainable Cities 2017 – Viable Solutions’ (SSC2017) will take place on 14 June 2017 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. During the conference, over 200 young potentials and industrial, educational & governmental organisations from all over Europe will  exchange ideas about the smart sustainable city of the future. The conference offers a stage for brand, project or business exposure, business networking opportunities, as well as access to information, education and much more.


With a focus on ‘what is promising’, academics and practitioners from different countries will present the most viable and inspiring solutions for urban sustainability. They will address the policy, design and technology experiments being implemented today. Furthermore, this conference will propose future directions for cities on hot urban issues as innovation, education, transition, social and economic opportunities and development, to move us toward a more sustainable future.



Conference topics


  •     The transition: focus on all the city stocks and flows related to the making, management and renovation of smart sustainable cities.
  •     Opportunities and innovation: focus on new forms of entrepreneurship and innovation contributing to realize a smart sustainable city.
  •     Living well together: focus on the relation between sustainable urban development and human/societal needs.
  •     Systems in the city: this topic focuses on the opportunities as well as the implications Big Data have on the privacy of the citizens.

Transition Zero Award 2017


Part of the SSC2017-programme will be the Young Professionals Event – Transition Zero Award 2017. Students are invited to compete in the international Sustainable City competition for the Transition Zero Award 2017 and to submit their project that contributes to the transition towards smart sustainable cities. The finalists will participate and present their solutions at the central stage of the conference.


Deadline for the submission of project documents: 1 May 2017.
