OPTIMUS "OPTIMising the energy USe in cities with smart decision support systems” is an EU funded project which aims to design, develop and deliver a Decision Support System (DSS), as an integrated web-platform, which helps local authorities to achieve significant reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions in their premises. OPTIMUS will provide an integrated Information and Communications Technology (ICT) platform that will collect and structure open data sets from five domains (namely: weather conditions, social mining, buildings' energy profiles, energy prices, energy production). It will use semantic/intelligent technologies so as to combine them and propose energy optimisation plans. The resulting web-based DSS will be validated through pilot applications in three different cities: Savona (Italy), Sant Cugat del Vallès (Spain) and Zaanstad (The Netherlands).OPTIMUS will have, by design, the necessary degree of generalisation so as to be easily adapted to cities with different characteristics. This is related to another goal of the project, i.e. to produce an advanced and intelligent turn-key solution addressed to any city that has as purpose to implement and monitor sustainable energy action plans.
The project will follow four broad stages over the three years (2013-2016) that it is taking place:
- Developing a Framework to Assess Cities energy Use;
- Developing the DSS;
- Piloting the DSS in Italy, Spain & Netherlands;
- Organising training sessions for other cities to implement the DSS.
