“REuse and REcycling of CDW materials and structures in energy efficient pREfabricated elements for building REfurbishment and construction”
Prefabricated elements from recycled materials to develop energy efficient buildings and minimize environmental impacts
The newly launched RE4 is a 42-month research project supported by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme for Research and Innovation (call H2020-EEB-04, grant agreement no. 723583) with the main aim to promote new technological solutions and strategies for the development of prefabricated elements with high degree of recycled materials and reused structures from demolished buildings. The main aim of the project is to develop energy efficient building produced from CDW (Construction and Demolition Waste) -derived materials and structures, thus minimize environmental impacts in the construction industry. The project is coordinated by CETMA and consists of 12 partners from 7 European countries and 1 extra EU country (Taiwan). The Consortium has a strong industrial character (4 SMEs and 3 LEs), complemented by the specific competence of 5 top level research and innovation organizations and one association.
The RE4 project focuses on the suitable design concept and building elements that can be easily assembled and disassembled for future reuse, containing up to 65% in weight of recycled materials from CDW-derived materials and structures. The building component will be suitable for both new construction and building refurbishment. The final building design will be used to demonstrate the developed solutions and support the dissemination of the project. The demonstration activities will be carried out in Spain and Ireland to validate concept in different climatic conditions.
