Key challenge for sustainable energy future is the path towards 2050: buildings are responsible for 40% of the energy consumption, and 80% goes for heating and cooling.   Moreover, the intermittent availability of renewable energy sources and the increase of the electrical energy demand would put strain on the grid.

Concept   PACE, which stands for “Pathway to a Competitive European Fuel Cell micro-Cogeneration market”, is a flagship EU and industry funded project that will deploy more than 2,800 of the next generation Fuel Cell micro-Cogeneration units in 10 European countries by 2021.   The project brings together the five leading European suppliers (BDR Thermea, Bosch, SOLIDpower, Sunfire and Viessmann), and will focus on residential homes and small enterprises.

COGEN Europe welcomes the renewed commitment to the “energy efficiency first” principle in the European Commission’s “Clean Energy for All Europeans” package released on November, 30th. To unlock the potential of high efficiency cogeneration, the ‘energy efficiency first’ principle should be consistently applied across all the legislative proposals in the Package, and across the whole energy system, from customers right through to generators, taking an integrated approach across heat and power.
