EDI-Net, a Horizon 2020 project, assists in building cities' and regions' capacity to more effectively implement sustainable energy policies. Therefore it is analysing short time series metered energy and water data from public buildings, from renewable energy systems and from building energy management systems (BEMNS) in order to reduce energy consumption and to save money.

In November, BUILD UP visited the Intelligent Buildings fair during the European Utility Week 2016. Many companies put their smart and intelligent technologies on display. Will these benefit energy efficiency in buildings?     7 December 2016   ‘My grandparents used to grow food in their own garden. I think we are going back to this. And we will generate our own energy, too’, says Boyan, an ambitious graduate visiting the European Utility Week, looking ahead to what future homes will be like.

METIS is a mathematical model which can provide highly detailed analysis of the whole European energy system for electricity, gas and heat. It can simulate the operation of both energy systems and markets for electricity gas and heat on an hourly basis for a whole year, while also factoring in uncertainties like weather variations. For example, it can analyse the impact of higher shares of renewable energy down to the hour.   The model can be used at EU country or regional level, right down to the 276 economic regions in the EU which are used by analysts.
